As shades of gold creep across the state, it’s fall, ya’ll! That’s right, it’s time for hoodies, the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin spice everything. Best of all, it’s time to celebrate fall at the best pumpkin patches in Wisconsin! As a lifelong Wisconsinite, mama of three and self-professed pumpkin-patch enthusiast, I’ve been training much of my life for this post. Having been to many of the best pumpkin farms in Wisconsin, I’ve developed a few favorites over the years. 

From charming family-owned farms to sprawling fields overflowing with vibrant pumpkins. From the best pick your own pumpkin patch, to the best Wisconsin petting farms with pumpkins. The best farms for fall-themed baked goodies to those with the best corn mazes in Wisconsin. No matter what you love about pumpkin farms, chances are, Wisconsin has it. So, grab your favorite fall flannel, cozy blanket and pumpkin spice latte, friends.  

In today’s post, I’m sharing the best pumpkin patches in Wisconsin you don’t want to miss this fall! 

1) Basse’s Taste of Country

Colgate, Wisconsin 

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start with Basse’s Taste of Country. After years of visits with my young family, it is easily in the running for the best pumpkin patch in Wisconsin.  Located 25 minutes outside Milwaukee, Basse’s annual Pumpkin Fest is a can’t miss event in fall for Wisconsin families.  

First, Basses’s has a ridiculous list of offerings for kids at Pumpkin Fest which kicks off at the end of September.  Basse’s offers a pick your own pumpkin patch, an 8-acre corn maze and more than 65+ activities at the farm. If you are a family with little ones, Basse’s will easily keep your kids entertained the entire day. Some activities offered include massive jumping pillow, pig races, candy cannon, dog shows, dance parties, tumbler, raceway, basket hoops. Any fall activity you could dream up for your kids, they probably have it at Basse’s.  

Basse’s isn’t just for the kiddoes though. Grownups can shop for fall foods and décor at the onsite market. In addition, Basse’s now offers a beer garden on weekends.  

Seriously, your kids will never ever want to leave.  If you have a young family with kids, Basse’s should be at the top of your list. Disclaimer: being just outside the city, many consider it one of the best pumpkin farms in Milwaukee. As a result, the farm attracts massive crowds. Aim for a weekday or early weekend to try to avoid long lines.  

Good for: offerings for kids  

Could be better: It’s pricey and crowded 

2) Waldvogel’s Farm

Juneau, Wisconsin 

Another one of Wisconsin’s best pumpkin patches has got to be Waldvogel’s Farm in Juneau, Wisconsin. Located just under an hour northwest of Milwaukee, it is also the largest pumpkin farm in Wisconsin. Waldvogel’s Farm is massive at over 90 acres but also offers more than 70 attractions included with the price of admission (yes, 7-0).  

If you have little monsters to keep out of your hair, Waldvogel’s has got you. Waldvogel’s is one of the best pumpkin farms in Wisconsin for kids. Plan to arrive early as there’s so much to do, you truly want an entire day to enjoy it. Let your kids run wild on their massive jumping pumpkin pad or corn maze. Explore their grounds via a wagon or train ride or try out their 150-foot mega slide. Aspiring princesses will love their pumpkin carriage while the older kids love blasting apples from the apple launcher.   

Waldvogel’s is not just fun for the little people, though. On weekends, local craft vendors sell goods like candles, books, soaps and more at their Big Red Barn.  Their onsite bakery sells caramel apples, apple turnovers and other tasty treats. In addition, the farm hosts a rotating schedule of food trucks at the farm on weekends.   

Waldvogel’s is one of my favorite pumpkin farms in Wisconsin and one you should add to your must-see list.   

Good for: massive farm that doesn’t feel crowded, fun activities for kids  

Could be better: Their in-house fall food items could be better 

3) Creekside Valley Farm

Mequon, Wisconsin 

Creekside Valley Farm is located just 20 minutes outside Milwaukee and is an excellent choice for families on a budget. Unlike most pumpkin farms, Creekside Valley doesn’t charge an admission fee, except for their corn maze. So, bring the kids and check out their peddle tractors, swings and pumpkin games at no cost. If that isn’t reason to support Creekside Valley, I don’t know what is.  

I will say, their corn maze is totally worth checking out. It’s around 5 acres and uses trivia to incentivize the kids to beat the maze more quickly. So let the kids burn some energy while teaching them a thing or two.  

Good for: families on a budget 

Could be better: onsite eats are limited to snacks and weekend food trucks 

4) Elegant Farmer

Mukwonago, Wisconsin 

If tasting the flavors of fall is high on your list, consider visiting the iconic happy face barn of Elegant Farmer. Visitors to Elegant Farmer will find all the fall favorites like hayrides, pony rides and a pick your own pumpkin patch. The reason you should head to Elegant Farmer over the others, is for its out of this world food offerings.   

Elegant Farmer is the place to go on this list for all the best fall eats. You’ll find extensive fall foods to enjoy from cider spiced hams to novel items like their apple blossom popcorn. The real star, however, is its baked goods including its award-winning Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag. Sounds weird, I know, but it’s seriously legit. The Food Network’s Bobby Flay came to town to “throwdown” over the pie after it was named the “best pie in America” by multiple sources. You should probably purchase a pie or twelve, and judge for yourself.  

Good for: the best fall-themed baked and other food items  

Could be better: activities for kids 

5) Apple Holler

Sturtevant, Wisconsin 

Time for another heavy hitter and beloved Wisconsin institution: Apple Holler. Apple Holler is a large, family-owned farm and is the most well-rounded farm on the list. Apple Holler is best known for its apple orchard that was previously dubbed one of America’s best by USA Today. In my opinion, it’s one of the best pumpkin patches in Wisconsin too. 

First, Apple Holler has a wide range of activities for all ages, including pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and animals. Families with littles will love the Kids Korral Play area with a train, straw mountain and tons of other play features. While not as extensive as the heavy hitters mentioned earlier, it has some great fun for your little humans.  

The best part about Apple Holler however, is to start your day there with a fall breakfast. Apple Holler is home to the Red Barn Restaurant with incredibly fragrant fall offerings like their iconic cider donut bread pudding and apple dumplings. During fall the restaurant is open Monday-Friday.  Visiting on the weekend? Worry not. Plan for lunch at the farm at their onsite Applewood Grill.  Try the applewood smoked pulled pork sammie with pickled onion and bourbon cinnamon apples that just screams fall.  

Lastly, it IS Wisconsin, so this pumpkin patch comes with an onsite Biergarten and Hard Cider Bar as well. So cap off your crisp afternoon with a cranberry apple, cherry apple or bourbon barrel cider.   

Seriously, just leave me at Apple Holler. All the fall goodness in one spot.  

Good for: most well-rounded pumpkin farm for activities and restaurant eats 

Could be better: it’s a little more rundown and could use a refresh 

6) Swan’s Pumpkin Farm

Franksville, Wisconsin  

Swan’s Pumpkin Farm is another beloved destination for fall enthusiasts in Wisconsin. Our family has chaperoned many a field trip to Swan’s over the years and we’ve come to love it.  Located in Racine County, Swan’s is a short drive from the city if you are looking for the best Milwaukee pumpkin patch.  

Admission to the farm is free, however there are a ton of fun activities offered with the purchase of an adventure wristband. Activities offered at Swan’s include a witch hollow maze, jumping pillow, peddle carts, hayride, giant slide and more. They also have a petting zoo with animals your kids will be sure to love.  

Swan’s also has great food offerings including their Cauldron Café and Country Market. Stop into the Cauldron Café for homemade items such as their fresh kettle corn, cookies and caramel apples. Looking to grab and go? Stop into The Country Market for a variety of call gifts and décor and packaged food items.  

Swan’s has many of the offerings the larger farms do on a slightly lesser scale. We’ve always enjoyed our days at Swan’s, so consider dropping in for a visit.   

Good for: mid-range pumpkin farm offerings  

Could be better: Simply expanding food and activity offerings  

7) Treinen Farm

Lodi, Wisconsin 

Treinen Farm Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is a third-generation family farm in Lodi, on 200 acres of land.  If you’re looking for the best pumpkin patch in Milwaukee, this one is a bit of a drive. Located about 1.5 hours northwest of the city, Treinen Farm is a trek, but is worth it.  

Treinen Farm is massive and has many of the offerings of the best Wisconsin pumpkin patches. Offerings include adventure slides, tire playground, duck races, hay fort, giant spider webs and more. While visiting Treinen, stroll the walking trails up the hills with stunning bluffs overlook with views of the prairie. Additionally, they offer more than FIFTY varieties of pumpkins, making it an excellent pick your own pumpkin patch.   

Honestly, you need to visit Treinen Farm for their corn maze alone. Seriously, Treinen Farm is not just one of the best corn mazes in Wisconsin, but in America. USA Today 10Best voted Treinen Farm one of the best corn mazes in the United States. The planning that goes into the corn maze creation at Treinen Farm is impressive. First, an overall theme is picked, and months are spent sketching out the design. Then, the corn is planted in a grid pattern and the design is cut by hand. How cool is that? The mazes are extensive and can take anywhere from 45 minutes to hours (yes, hours) to navigate. Seriously, check out some of their past patterns; they are unbelievable.  

Don’t plan on enjoying a hayride or fall eats here as those are lacking. But pack a picnic lunch and come tackle the corn maze. It’s worth it to say you conquered something so massive.

Could be better: lack of hayrides and food options  

8) Bear Den Petting Zoo

Waterford, Wisconsin 

If you can’t tell, I’m going for variety on this list of best pumpkin patches in Wisconsin. So, let’s take a different direction and talk about Bear Den Zoo & Petting Farm in Waterford, Wisconsin. At Bear Den, you can get your pumpkin experience at one of the best Wisconsin petting farms!  

First and foremost, Bear Den prides itself on allowing its visitors to experience the magic of animals up close. For more than 35 years, visitors have loved coming to Bear Den to get up close and personal with a variety of animals including goats, sheep, pigs, llamas and more. What do we mean by up close? How about snuggly close? Like holding a baby kangaroo or little lemur in your hands close!   

In October, visitors can enjoy the wonder of this Wisconsin petting farm with all the beloved activities of fall. Fall offerings include hayrides, trick o treating, face painting, and a pumpkin patch. Honestly, it’s a lovely petting zoo first, with a side of pumpkin stuff. However, the interactive experiences make Bear Den a worthwhile stop when hunting for the best pumpkin patch in Wisconsin. 

Good for: hands-on experience holding baby animals  

Could be better: food options and expansion of fun fall activities for kids  

9) Schuett Farms

Mukwonago, Wisconsin 

Schuett Farms is a lesser known Wisconsin pumpkin patch on this list, but is a lovely place to visit come autumn. Located 30 minutes south of Milwaukee, Schuett Farms was established in 1958 and has continually expanded its offerings.  

Schuett Farms is perhaps best known for their iconically painted round hay bales. Schuett began painting pumpkin faces on their round bales in the 1990s and they are still known for it today. The farm currently sells sweet corn, beef, Christmas trees and during fall, offers a pick your own pumpkin patch.  Also, Schuett Farms has lots to keep your crazy kids occupied.  Let the kids enjoy a hayride, trip down the giant slide, or petting zoo. Or give your kids a turn shooting off the candy cannon or pumpkin launcher.  Lastly, bring your older kids and let them navigate the corn maze at night with a flashlight. Spooky!   

In addition, Schuett Farms also offers seasonal treats like caramel apples, warm mini donuts and hot apple cider.  Admission to the farm is free, with charges for the add on activities. While smaller, the picturesque setting makes it one of the better Wisconsin pumpkin patches.   

Good for: a less chaotic pumpkin farm experience with many offerings  

Could be better: greater food and fun offerings for kids  

10) Lindner Pumpkin Farm

New Berlin, Wisconsin 

Nestled just outside Milwaukee in New Berlin is the Lindner family farm. Lindner is a great choice for families looking for a variety of activities with a smaller farm feel. In addition, while not a Milwaukee pumpkin patch, it’s one of the closer options to the city.   

Head to Lindner to stock up on pumpkins and fall décor and let the little ones enjoy the petting zoo and Big Back Yard.  Activities at Lindner include giant slide, corn maze, pedal track, playground, pumpkin bowling and barrel train.  Visitors can relax on a scenic hayride through the fields or get their thrills at the onsite haunted house.   

With a plethora of pumpkins to choose from, from small decorative gourds to massive carving pumpkins, Lindner has it all. The farm also offers some tasty fall snacks including freshly baked pumpkin pies and warm apple cider to satisfy your fall cravings.   

Good for: activities for younger children 

Could be better: onsite eats; activities for older kids
